Reason to avoid---
One of the main reasons for avoiding is inorganic buffers is that they degrade the stationary phase quickly as compared to organic buffers. Plenty of studies have been done by pioneers of HPLC like Kirkland and others showing the effect of buffer. Organic acids are milder less corrosive than inorganic salts, yet they achieve the same job of buffering. On the other hand you don't have much precipitation problems with organics e.g. phosphate suddenly precipitates out in ACN. This effect permanently damages the stationary phase. Last but not the least organic buffers are more MS friendly.
